Hey There
My name is Julie Cousino, owner and teacher at Handiwork Studio. With a background in studying art, classroom teaching, and teaching art, I have developed a space where kids and adults alike can get in touch with their creativity, learn new skills, and put it all into practice.

Art is woven through my being. As a "creative" I have always looked closely at things, seen beauty in the everyday, and enjoyed using my inner talents to make things with my hands. From nailing scrap wood together in my dad's garage, creating sculptures from the clay at the bottom of the lake, and drawing impeccable mermaids in 2nd grade to studying art history, painting with acrylics, and getting an art teaching license, I continue to grow into what it means to be an artist. For me, art is not something that is merely whimsical and insubstantial, but rather a force that is practical and purposeful. We humans were created to create, representing people and places, ideas and ideals. The work of our hands can be seen EVERYWHERE- buildings, clothing, advertising, museums, and of course your mom's refrigerator! Art is so valuable: stimulating the mind, creating beauty, recording life, expressing, communicating. Art also reduces stress, builds self-confidence, improves problem solving skills, unplugs us, and builds focus.

I'm bringing passion and practicality to the little city of Vergennes, Vermont, through Handiwork Studio and its programming. I have 14 years of teaching experience from Preschool to Middle School in private, public, and homeschool settings, as well as leading adult workshops in painting, linoleum printing, and flower arranging. I have studied business, art history, studio art, and teaching and I am thrilled to unite these interests into one thriving space!

Along with designing programming, teaching art, making clay earrings, and painting with acrylics at Handiwork Studio, you'll find me hanging out with my husband and our 7-year-old son, trying to locate my dog in our yard, playing with flowers, drinking coffee, and singing with the worship team at Panton Community Church.
